A place to uncover African American Quilt History and Quilt Documentation for the preservation of family heritage.

WHY ARE WE HERE?

Our purpose is to inspire understanding of the social, cultural, and artistic significance of African-American quilts. Our goal is to document, research, and preserve African-American quilt history through data collection and collaboration with local, state, and national societies, museums and universities.

African American Quilt Documentation Day at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive

In conjunction with the quilt exhibit, Routed West: 21st Century African American Quilts in California, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) has partnered with the African American Quilt Documentation Study Group (AAQDSG) to offer a Quilt Documentation Event to help preserve African American quilt history for future generations

EVENT:  African American Quilt Documentation Day at BAMPFA

DATE:  Saturday, June 28, 2025

TIME:  12:00 – 4:00 PM

LOCATION:  Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive 2155 Center Street, Berkeley, CA 94720

Bring your family quilt(s) to BAMPFA to be documented by AAQDSG. Regardless of the condition, your quilt will be examined, photographed and recorded in the African American Quilt Registry. Note: Your quilt will always remain in your possession during the documentation process. The event is FREE, but appointments are limited and advanced registration is required.
